SERES chairman says Huawei’s QianKun driving can “see beyond the human eye”; leave the verdict to the market

Zhang Zhengping pitches sensor-rich Wenjie M9 against Tesla FSD

SERES (赛力斯) chairman Zhang Zhengping told attendees at the Future Auto Pioneers Conference in Shenzhen that which autonomous driving system is superior — Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) or Huawei QianKun Intelligent Driving (华为乾崑智驾) — should ultimately be decided by the market. He emphasized hardware redundancy and multi-sensor fusion as SERES’s competitive angle. It has been reported that Zhang described Huawei’s QianKun as capable of reaching a state of “more than what the human eye can see,” contrasting it directly with Tesla’s vision-first approach.

Hardware vs. pure vision: a technical duel

Zhang used the new Wenjie M9 (问界 M9), produced in partnership with Huawei, as an example. It has been reported that the model carries six LiDAR units and a total of 40 autonomous-driving sensors, paired with Huawei’s ADS 5 full-stack system — a configuration Zhang said “does not lose to FSD” in redundancy. By contrast, Tesla’s FSD has moved to a pure-vision stack since its V12 release, relying on eight cameras and end-to-end neural networks that mimic human visual driving logic. Which route — sensor fusion or pure vision — will scale faster and safer? The industry is watching closely.

Market, data and the wider geopolitics

SERES also showcased sales and usage metrics: it has been reported that the Wenjie brand reached one million new-car deliveries in 46 months and that assisted-driving mileage for the brand exceeds 7.7 billion kilometres with over 537,000 users; Wenjie M9’s intelligent-driving engagement reportedly topped 52% over the recent May Day holiday. This competition unfolds against a backdrop of US‑China tech tensions and export controls that have nudged Chinese automakers and suppliers to pursue diversified hardware strategies and faster domestic innovation. In the end, Zhang argued, consumers — and the market — will decide which technical path wins.
