Surprise at Huawei (华为) launch: HarmonyOS (鸿蒙) 6.1.0.117 SP6 rolls out, Mate 80 equipped with Super Space Memory
Immediate rollout during a product event
It has been reported that Huawei (华为) pushed a surprise system update — HarmonyOS (鸿蒙) 6.1.0.117 SP6 — while unveiling its new Pura series and all-scenario devices. The update package is about 5.16 GB and began rolling out during the launch event, bringing visual tweaks, security additions and workflow conveniences to existing HarmonyOS users.
What’s in the update
The SP6 release reportedly adds an "immersive lighting" visual treatment, a Star Shield anti-fraud feature (星盾防诈), and a time-limited encrypted sharing option. Other highlights include an evolved interactive pet theme with customizable appearance and behavior, an upgraded AI "air transfer" animation for multi-file sharing, and new Changlian (畅连) real‑time push‑to‑talk with location sharing — even usable from the background by long‑pressing the volume up key. Users also get new floating-window style options and a full‑screen alarm reminder toggle.
Mate 80 gets “Super Space Memory”
Huawei’s Mate 80 (华为 Mate 80) series is reportedly the first to ship with the vendor’s Super Space Memory (超空间内存) technology enabled. Huawei says the feature keeps foreground interactions silky while substantially improving background task retention and process survival — in short, smoother multitasking and fewer reloaded apps.
Why this matters beyond features
Why the surprise push now? For Huawei, software innovation is a strategic priority amid long‑running U.S. export restrictions that have constrained its access to some foreign component suppliers. HarmonyOS tweaks and system‑level memory management are ways to lift perceived user experience without relying solely on new silicon. Will these software refinements shift buyer perceptions outside China? That remains to be seen, but Huawei’s continued focus on self‑reliance and integrated software‑hardware optimizations is clearly the company’s playbook going forward.
