Dongpeng Special Drink (东鹏特饮) signs on as global title sponsor of Zhang Xue Motorcycle Team (张雪机车); team vows a season crown in three years
Sponsorship and ambition
Dongpeng Special Drink (东鹏特饮) has formally become the global title sponsor of Zhang Xue Motorcycle Team (张雪机车), it has been reported. At the April 16 launch event Zhang Xue reportedly pledged to deliver “one season championship within three years” as a return on the sponsor’s investment, and promised a fan giveaway of 500 signed caps plus five on-site race tickets, with the team covering all costs. The deal elevates a Chinese motorsports outfit onto a more visible global stage.
The bike and safety caveats
The sponsorship follows heightened attention after Zhang Xue’s victory at the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) round in Portugal. It has been reported that on April 3 the team’s race-bred road model — the Zhang Xue 820RR, billed as China’s first WSBK champion motorcycle — entered mass production and is being delivered to customers. The 820RR starts at ¥43,800, produces up to 135PS and claims a 0–100 km/h time of 2.81 seconds. The official product ordering page warns that the 820RR’s power is “too strong” for novices: riders with less than one year of experience are prohibited from purchasing, and the factory offers a ¥5,000 reward to customers who report prohibited sales.
Why it matters
For Western readers unfamiliar with China’s motorsports push: domestic motorcycle makers and consumer brands are using racing success and sponsorship to build engineering credibility and global recognition. Dongpeng is a major Chinese energy drink brand that has increasingly backed sport as a marketing channel. Can Zhang Xue convert a headline-grabbing promise into sustained championship performance? Observers say the deal is as much about national industrial confidence and brand-building as it is about trophies — and it will be closely watched by fans and sponsors alike.
