Xiaomi (小米) launches official “Battery Upgrade” service; larger batteries reportedly available for Xiaomi 13 series
What happened
Xiaomi (小米) has quietly added an official "Battery Upgrade" service to its repair offerings, and it has been reported that the company may allow larger-capacity batteries to be fitted into the Xiaomi 13 series. Multiple bloggers and Chinese tech site IT Home (IT之家) say the service is live for at least one model and that Xiaomi is positioning the option separately from standard battery replacements. More battery life? Reportedly, yes — but details remain limited.
Details
IT Home's check found the new "Battery Upgrade" entry currently visible for the Xiaomi 13 Ultra only; Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro are not yet listed but are expected to be added later. The upgrade is priced at ¥149, versus a normal battery replacement fee of ¥119. Stock capacities for the series are: Xiaomi 13 — 4500mAh (typ) / 4400mAh (min); Xiaomi 13 Pro — 4820mAh (typ) / 4700mAh (min); Xiaomi 13 Ultra — 5000mAh (typ) / 4880mAh (min). Xiaomi's service path in the app is Xiaomi Mall → Services → All Services → Repair Prices → Phones & Tablets → choose model.
Why it matters
For Western readers unfamiliar with China’s handset market: Xiaomi is one of the country’s biggest smartphone makers and a major global player. An official battery upgrade option speaks to growing consumer demand for longer device lifetimes and easier hardware servicing — themes that overlap with right-to-repair debates in Europe and the U.S. It also offers a practical incentive to keep recent flagship hardware longer amid broader supply-chain and geopolitical pressures on electronics makers. If the leaks are accurate, owners of the 13 series could get meaningful uptime gains — and fuel the popular notion that the "13" lineup is especially desirable.
