ITHome (IT之家) releases HarmonyOS (鸿蒙) Edition 8.0 with floating bottom bar and immersive lighting

What’s new

ITHome (IT之家) has pushed a HarmonyOS (鸿蒙)–specific update, Version 8.0, bringing a redesigned reading experience and new UI flourishes. After upgrading to the "328" system build, the app reportedly supports a new floating bottom bar and "immersive lighting" effects, with user controls for toggling the feature, setting immersion material levels and choosing immersion color. Article pages gain a “More” popup that allows quick light/dark theme switching, while the "My" section adds a three‑state theme toggle: light, dark or follow system.

Apps and availability

The update also bundles two HarmonyOS clients: ZuiHuiMai (最会买), a cashback/discount shopping app that stacks coupons with rebates, and YaoZhi (要知), which reportedly was selected as an AppGallery (Huawei 应用市场) Best App for August 2025 and received a featured recommendation. ITHome continues to emphasize broad platform coverage — the publisher offers clients across HarmonyOS, Android, iOS, Windows and multiple mini‑program ecosystems — and the HarmonyOS build can be downloaded separately for users in Huawei’s ecosystem.

Why this matters

Why should Western readers care? HarmonyOS is Huawei (华为)’s answer to an app and OS ecosystem that has been constrained by years of US trade restrictions and limits on Google services. Every significant app update and AppGallery promotion signals ongoing investment in a parallel Chinese mobile ecosystem that matters to developers and device makers operating in China. It has been reported that ITHome claims top popularity by Baidu index — a reminder that localized platforms and UI innovations will continue to shape user expectations even as geopolitics pushes software stacks in different directions.
