Huawei-backed AITO (问界) M9 EV confirmed with 120 kWh battery, MIIT filing shows
Key update
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT, 工信部) has updated its tax-exempt new energy vehicle catalogue to list the HarmonyOS-backed AITO (问界) M9 series, and the headline is clear: the pure-electric M9 (M9 EV) is shown with a 120.04329 kWh battery — about 120 kWh — and claimed ranges of 750 km / 715 km / 702 km. The MIIT list is the official registry used for China’s vehicle purchase‑tax exemptions, so these specifications carry regulatory weight.
Technical details
The filing differentiates two powertrains. The range‑extender M9 (增程版) will be offered with two battery sizes: 75.408 kWh and 60.014 kWh, with respective range figures of 335 / 320 / 315 km and 265 / 255 / 250 km as listed by MIIT. The pure‑electric M9 EV’s 120.04329 kWh pack is presented alongside the three range figures above. These numbers come directly from the MIIT entry; they are model certifications rather than final consumer WLTP or EPA ratings.
Design, marketing and geopolitical context
It has been reported that exterior images and hardware highlights for the new M9 have leaked, showing redesigned projection headlights, a full-width lightbar, semi-concealed door handles and large “big-disk” wheels with a floating logo. Huawei (华为) executive Richard Yu (余承东) has also teased that the next‑generation M9 will integrate stronger “full‑stack” Huawei technologies — a claim the company is pushing in automotive software and smart cockpit features. How far Huawei can push into cars matters beyond design: despite U.S. export controls that have constrained Huawei’s access to advanced chips for telecom gear, the company continues to invest in vehicle software, partnerships and domestic incentives to grow its position in China’s fast‑moving EV market. Why build such a large battery? For Chinese buyers, range remains a key competitive battleground.
