Huawei (华为) Pura X Max wide horizontal foldable leaked again; official teases "Old Yu said this one can be posted"
Official tease, public hands-on
Huawei (华为) released another short teaser this morning showing a wide horizontal foldable phone believed to be the Pura X Max. The clip, posted on Huawei’s official smartphone account, shows Huawei executive director and head of the Product Investment Committee, Terminal Business Group chairman Yu Chengdong (余承东) handling the device while the caption playfully reads, “Come see what makes Old Yu so attached? He said this one can be posted.” It has been reported that Yu also shared the device in a separate Xiaohongshu post earlier, signalling Huawei’s comfort in rolling out controlled previews ahead of launch.
What the footage reveals
The video offers clear design clues. The handset folds horizontally like a wide tablet and the rear appears to carry a three-camera array with a noticeably protruding module. Huawei has scheduled a Pura-series and all-scenario launch for April 20 at 14:30, and it has been reported that He Gang (何刚), CEO of Huawei’s Terminal Business Group, has hinted the Pura family will encompass more than just the Pura 90 series — suggesting a broader push across device categories and form factors.
Why this matters
Foldables are a marquee battleground as China’s smartphone makers chase premium growth. Can Huawei keep pace with rivals such as Samsung and Xiaomi on design and ecosystem? The question has extra weight given long-running external pressures: amid U.S. sanctions that have constrained Huawei’s access to some advanced components, the company has leaned harder on industrial design, software integration and multiple-device scenarios to differentiate its products. Reportedly, Huawei aims to use the April event to show how the Pura line fits into a wider “full-scene” strategy rather than as a one-off headline device.
