Tesla launches 2026 facelifted Model Y in China with blacked‑out badge; starts at ¥263,500
What changed
It has been reported that Tesla (特斯拉) has introduced a minor 2026 facelift for its China-made Model Y, swapping the chrome badge for a blacked‑out emblem and adding two paid appearance options while leaving powertrain and core specifications unchanged. The entry price remains ¥263,500. New options include 20‑inch "Spiral Storm" wheels (20 英寸螺旋风暴轮毂) and a light‑grey premium interior, each priced at ¥8,000.
Recent updates and rollout
It has been reported that the black badge treatment first appeared on Tesla's Model 3 last October, and that Tesla earlier this year (January 6) upgraded the Model Y's front center screen from a 15.4‑inch 1080p panel to a 16‑inch 2K unit. The current update is therefore largely cosmetic — wheels, trim and interior colour — rather than a technical refresh.
Why it matters
Cosmetic tweaks are a low‑risk way for Tesla to keep the Model Y visually fresh in China, where the SUV is built at Gigafactory Shanghai and competes with aggressive domestic rivals such as BYD, NIO and Xpeng. With margins and market share under pressure across the global EV sector — and amid broader U.S.–China trade and regulatory frictions that affect supply chains and operations — small appearance updates can be an easy lever to sustain buyer interest. But will a new badge and a few accessories be enough to blunt increasingly sophisticated local competition? That question remains open.
