BYD (比亚迪) and KFC (肯德基) Forge “9-Minute” Charging-and-Meal Partnership

Deal and concept

BYD (比亚迪) and KFC (肯德基) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to create a “9-minute one-stop human-and-vehicle refueling” ecosystem, it has been reported that the ceremony took place at BYD’s global headquarters in Shenzhen. The pitch is simple: order and pay via the car’s smart voice system, pick up the meal at a KFC drive-through window, and plug into a BYD flash-charging station so eating and charging happen at the same time. Car fully charged, people fully fed — in nine minutes, the companies say.

Technology and rollout

The partnership will first put KFC’s in-car ordering into BYD’s personalized brand model 方程豹·钛7 (Fangchengbao Taï 7) and then expand across BYD’s multi-brand lineup, reportedly with the vehicle systems automatically matching driving routes to pickup workflows for “zero-wait” collection. BYD will also integrate its flash-charging network with KFC’s drive-through outlets nationwide. The company claims second-generation blade battery and flash-charging tech can take a vehicle from 10% to 97% in about nine minutes; it has been reported that BYD has already built more than 5,000 flash chargers and aims for 20,000 by the end of 2026.

Why it matters — and the wider context

For Chinese consumers this is about convenience: turning otherwise idle minutes into productive, combined refueling for people and cars. For BYD and KFC it’s a move to stitch automotive hardware, software and retail into daily life — and to differentiate in a crowded EV market. In geopolitical terms, the push highlights Beijing-backed efforts to deepen domestic EV infrastructure and commercial ecosystems even as global trade frictions and export controls shape supply-chain choices for batteries, chips and charging equipment. Will other automakers and fast-food chains follow? Expect imitators quickly if the nine-minute promise proves real.
