Huawei (华为) AI glasses are coming; He Gang reveals first sample photos

A watermark and a hint

He Gang (何刚), CEO of Huawei's Consumer Business Group, today shared a photo whose watermark reads "HUAWEI AI Glasses," a clear signal that Huawei (华为) is preparing to launch smart eyewear. The image itself is light on detail, but the branded watermark and the timing point to an imminent product announcement. Are smart glasses making a comeback in a market that once flirted with the category and largely moved on?

What we know so far

It has been reported that the new device is expected to debut in the first half of the year and will support photography and audio capture, HarmonyOS-based cross-device collaboration, and real‑time translation. Reportedly available finishes include Flowing Silver, Titanium Grey and Modern Black. Separate software breadcrumbs in HarmonyOS 6.0.0.130 — notably a "device photo import" entry on the system's negative-one screen — further reinforce the glasses hypothesis: the UI lists "Huawei Glasses" as the service provider for importing photos to a paired phone and lets users set permission for that service.

Why it matters

Huawei's push into AI glasses comes against a backdrop of U.S. export controls that have constrained its access to cutting‑edge silicon, pushing the company to lean on software, services and integration across devices. Smart eyewear would play directly into Huawei's strategy to showcase HarmonyOS as a seamless cross‑device platform while offering visible AI features that are harder for sanctions alone to block. International privacy and regulatory scrutiny will follow if the product reaches global markets, and it has been reported that Huawei will emphasize on‑device and cross‑device controls to address those concerns.
