Xiaomi (小米) to upgrade six power banks to meet China’s new mandatory safety standard
Company announcement and first product
Xiaomi (小米) announced it will upgrade six of its power-bank models to comply fully with China’s newly published mandatory standard for mobile power banks. The company simultaneously launched the first compliant unit, the Xiaomi Power Bank Magnetic Stand 10000 7.5W 2026 edition, which is reportedly on sale now at an introductory price of ¥199, according to IT Home (IT之家). Xiaomi said the 2026 edition uses a new safety cell design and has been engineered to meet the standard’s full suite of requirements.
What the new national standard demands
The compulsory national standard, formally titled “Mobile Power Bank Safety Technical Specifications” (《移动电源安全技术规范》), was published on April 3, 2026 and will take effect on April 1, 2027. The rule tightens intrinsic battery safety and adds harsher tests — including needle-penetration, high-temperature, overcharge and crush scenarios — to reduce fire and thermal-runaway risks. It also introduces cycle‑aging tests to detect long‑term internal shorting and requires manufacturers to mark a recommended safe-use period on devices so consumers know when to replace older units.
Product details and broader context
Xiaomi says the 2026 edition passed 15 of the new standard’s test items and incorporates a next‑generation safety battery with 12 protection measures; it also adds intelligent management to read battery-state information, an adjustable magnetic/wired stand, and support for up to three devices simultaneously (33W wired output, 15W wireless, 30W input). IT Home notes Xiaomi moved the 3C (China Compulsory Certification) mark to a more visible side location and printed “recommended safe use life: 5 years” on the housing. How will other manufacturers respond? With a mandatory national rule looming, Chinese vendors must rapidly redesign hardware and labeling — a domestic regulatory tightening that also affects international suppliers and supply‑chain testing practices as firms race to certify products before the 2027 deadline.
