Wang Tao (汪涛) named Huawei (华为) rotating chairman for April–September 2026

Appointment and term

It has been reported by IT Home (IT之家) that Huawei (华为) announced Wang Tao (汪涛) will serve as the company’s rotating chairman from April 1, 2026 to September 30, 2026, taking over the slot from Meng Wanzhou (孟晚舟). Under Huawei’s rotating-chair system, the incoming chair will preside over the board of directors and the board’s executive committee for the six‑month term. The appointment follows the company’s release of its 2025 financial results.

Career and role

Who is Wang Tao? A veteran Huawei executive, Wang graduated from Xi’an Jiaotong University (西安交通大学) with a master’s degree and joined Huawei in 1997. Over nearly three decades he has held senior roles across markets and product lines, including president of product marketing for the Europe region, general manager of Huawei’s Italy & Switzerland subsidiaries, president of the wireless-network and network-product lines, president of ICT Strategy & Marketing, president of ICT Products & Solutions, director of the Product Investment Review Committee, and director of the ICT Infrastructure Business Management Committee. He currently serves as vice chairman and is part of the company’s rotating chairman roster.

Why it matters

Huawei’s rotating-chair practice is designed to distribute executive responsibility among senior managers and project continuity inside a highly constrained external environment. Why is this notable now? Huawei remains subject to U.S. export controls and other geopolitical pressures that have reshaped its supply chains and strategic priorities. Wang’s deep experience in networks and ICT products underscores Huawei’s emphasis on maintaining core telecom and infrastructure businesses even as it expands cloud, software and domestic supply capabilities. It has been reported that the change is procedural and intended to ensure steady governance as Huawei navigates ongoing trade and technology headwinds.
