Xiaomi Automobile (小米汽车) says it withheld "big deposit" figures because "locked-order data is more realistic"
Reservation numbers: locked orders, not headline-grabbing deposits
Xiaomi Automobile (小米汽车) told customers and media that it intentionally did not publish the new-generation SU7’s large "big deposit" (大定) figures at its launch, and instead disclosed non‑refundable "locked-order" (锁单) numbers. Why? The company said locked orders — deposits that cannot be refunded — "more realistically and objectively reflect user choice and recognition." Xiaomi noted it has followed this disclosure practice since the YU7 launch in June, and emphasized the company is focused on improving buyer experience and accelerating deliveries for locked‑order owners.
Safety claims and harsher crash simulation
In a Q&A posted on its official account, Xiaomi said the SU7 underwent a simulated head‑on collision drawn from C‑NCAP standard conditions but at 20% higher speeds, producing roughly 1.44 times the crash energy of the baseline test. It has been reported that Xiaomi’s results showed intact A/B/C pillar structures, correct airbag and pre‑tensioner operation, no abnormal battery behavior, automatic E‑CALL and door unlocking, and dummy injury metrics within occupant‑protection limits — the company called the test "more stringent" than the standard scenario and reiterated "safety above all."
Performance, range and measurement notes
Xiaomi also outlined powertrain and range upgrades: the new SU7 family adopts a V6s Plus "super motor," raises top speeds on the Standard/Pro trims from 210 km/h to 240 km/h, and claims improved drive efficiency (+1.5%) with CLTC ranges of Standard 720 km, Pro 902 km and Max 835 km. Media runs of the SU7 Max on 21‑inch sport wheels reportedly returned 0–100 km/h times of 3.14–3.17 seconds and 100–0 km/h braking distances around 34–35.6 m; Xiaomi added that its updated 0–100 methodology "includes launch time," which partly explains small timing differences versus the first generation.
Options, accessories and firmware rollout
The company confirmed multiple wheel/tire combinations that trade off range, comfort and sportiness, and said the Capri‑Blue 20‑inch blade wheel is a Max‑only special option. On in‑car accessories, Xiaomi explained compatibility rules for the new fragrance unit: second‑generation SU7 owners with the new scent kit get full functionality; older units and first‑generation cars will require a fragrance‑module firmware update (version 0092) rolling out in early April and subsequent vehicle OTA updates to enable full UI features.
Broader context
The explanation arrives as China’s EV makers compete fiercely for credibility at home and abroad. It has been reported that some industry players have previously amplified deposit or reservation figures to attract attention; Xiaomi’s focus on locked orders reads as an attempt to present a cleaner, verifiable demand signal amid investor scrutiny and broader supply‑chain and geopolitical headwinds for the sector.
