Xiaomi (小米) redesigns interior of new-generation SU7: major seat upgrades, four-door acoustic laminated glass standard, and more

Interior overhaul and feature highlights

Xiaomi (小米) used its spring launch to unveil a redesigned interior for the new-generation SU7, shifting the narrative from pure hardware-to-software integration to passenger comfort and acoustic refinement. It has been reported that the cabin now includes a three-layer circumferential ambient lighting system that can sync to music and driving modes, a sport steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather with chrome trim, and 100% soft-touch surfaces in high-contact areas. The emphasis is on a premium, tactile feel rather than radical cockpit reconfiguration.

Seats, fridge and sound system upgrades

Seating is the headline: it has been reported that all models come standard with an 18‑way adjustable sport driver’s seat, offering massage and active lateral support, while the front passenger receives a zero‑gravity seat with ventilation, heating and massage. Rear-seat recline has been improved to 121° with upgraded sleep headrests. Xiaomi has also upgraded the in-car mini-fridge with an independent compressor supporting -6 to 15°C cooling and 35 to 50°C heating and a 4.4L capacity (roughly six cans). Audio has been beefed up as well — Standard and Pro trims reportedly get a 14‑speaker system with a new subwoofer reaching below 30Hz, while the Max model offers a 25‑speaker luxury system with Dolby Atmos.

Noise control and panoramic roof

Quiet cabin features are now more widely standard. It has been reported that the SU7 will include four-door acoustic laminated glass across the range; the Max trim can be optioned with an ultrasonic quiet-cabin package using more than 110 acoustic materials. Sunroof and glazing upgrades include dual-layer silver-coated panoramic roofs and three-layer silver-coated windshields across the line, with the Max model adding a dual-zone smart dimming roof that can be independently controlled for front and rear passengers.

Why it matters

Why is a phone-maker obsessing over seats and glass? Because Xiaomi’s car playbook mirrors broader trends in China’s EV market: rapid premiumization, vertical integration, and differentiation through user experience rather than only range or autonomous claims. It has been reported that this push comes amid geopolitical pressures and supply‑chain scrutiny that are accelerating Chinese firms’ moves to control more of the stack domestically. Whether these interior refinements will win buyers remains to be seen, but the SU7’s upgrades signal Xiaomi’s intent to compete on luxury feel as well as tech.
