Lei Jun unveils new-generation SU7 with "Xiaomi Jiaolong Chassis (小米蛟龙底盘)" — billed as a driver-focused intelligent platform

High-performance chassis "for drivers"

Xiaomi (小米) founder Lei Jun today unveiled the new-generation SU7 and its centerpiece: the Xiaomi Jiaolong Chassis (小米蛟龙底盘), a soft–hard deeply integrated intelligent chassis system that the company says is "designed for drivers." Lei framed the SU7 as a new-generation driver's car, promising markedly improved driving feel through hardware architecture and professional tuning. The new SU7 is set to debut on March 19, it has been reported.

Structural and safety upgrades

The SU7's chassis package pairs a front double-wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension with closed dual-chamber air springs, CDC variable damping, four-piston front calipers and 265 mm wide rear tires — features aimed at blending comfort and dynamic control. Xiaomi says the car also standardizes safety hardware across the range: a 2,200 MPa-strength steel rollover cage (A- to C-pillar coverage), four-door anti-collision beams, nine airbags including new rear-side airbags, a 1,500 MPa protection beam with a high-strength coating — reportedly improving scratch and tear resistance tenfold and puncture resistance 13-fold — plus three-way mechanical redundancy for door opening and emergency manual release.

Powertrain and AD hardware

Xiaomi has equipped the SU7 with V6s Plus motors, with the standard output at 320 hp and a Max variant claiming 690 hp. The lineup runs a silicon-carbide high-voltage platform: the standard and Pro use a 752V architecture while the Max moves to 897V. Claimed CLTC ranges are 720 km for the standard and 902 km for the Pro. On the software and autonomy front, it has been reported that all trims will carry lidar, 700 TOPS auxiliary driving compute, 4D millimeter-wave radar and Xiaomi HAD end‑to‑end assisted driving — a clear step up in sensor and processing capability compared with the current model. Pre-orders have opened with reported pre-sale prices between ¥229,900 and ¥309,900.

Strategic context: integration amid supply and policy pressures

The SU7 launch underscores Xiaomi's push to vertically integrate hardware, software and vehicle controls — a strategy increasingly common among Chinese EV makers seeking product differentiation. Analysts note this drive to build in-house systems coincides with wider geopolitical friction over semiconductor exports and automotive-grade components; Western export controls and supply-chain scrutiny have prompted Chinese players to accelerate domestic engineering and leverage technologies like silicon carbide that improve efficiency but can be sensitive in trade policy debates. Whether Xiaomi can translate the Jiaolong chassis' promises into a measurable lead on real roads remains to be seen; track and consumer tests will follow the March 19 reveal.
