Leaked: MacBook Neo can be switched to Display P3 but cannot hit full P3 coverage
Leak: P3 profile is selectable, reportedly produces wider color
It has been reported that Apple (苹果)’s new MacBook Neo can be manually switched to a Display P3 color profile, according to a post by X user @ZONEofTECH and a write-up by IT Home (IT之家). Reportedly, the laptop’s System Settings > Displays menu includes a “Display P3” color description file that users can select, and enabling it makes images appear more saturated and vivid than the machine’s default sRGB output.
Limits: wider gamut, but not equal to Air/Pro
That said, the same reports emphasize the important caveat: switching the profile does not mean the MacBook Neo physically covers 100% of the P3 gamut. Neo’s panel cannot reach the full P3 coverage offered by MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models, so while visuals will look richer than sRGB, they won’t match Apple’s higher-end displays. IT之家 also notes Apple’s official specs for the Neo list sRGB and 500 nits brightness — an apparent mismatch with the leaked profile option.
Why it matters
For readers unfamiliar with color gamuts: P3 is a wider color space than the long‑standing sRGB standard and is used on many modern Macs and professional displays to render more saturated reds and greens. Manufacturers sometimes allow profile switching in software even when panels don’t fully cover a gamut — a trade‑off between cost, battery life and product positioning. So can the Neo replace an Air or Pro for color‑critical work? Not really. It may look punchier for photos and video, but it’s not a true P3‑calibrated panel and shouldn’t be treated as such.
