WeChat HarmonyOS app updated to 8.0.15.64; reported expansion of watch-login slots

App update and rollout

WeChat (微信), Tencent (腾讯)’s ubiquitous messaging platform, has pushed an early-access update of its HarmonyOS (鸿蒙) native app to Huawei AppGallery (华为应用市场), releasing version 8.0.15.64 (build 8392512). The trial upgrade window runs from 2026-03-11 to 2026-04-10 and — unlike some staged installs — can be applied directly from AppGallery without waiting for an SMS link. Official release notes simply state the build “fixes some known issues.”

What’s changed — watch logins and usability

Users have reported changes after upgrading. It has been reported that the new build reportedly opens up additional login slots for WeChat on Huawei smartwatches, easing a long-standing restriction that limited how many wearable devices can be logged into a single WeChat account. Why does that matter? More simultaneous watch logins improve the cross-device experience for users who rely on wearables for messaging and payments.

Wider context: HarmonyOS adoption and payments

The HarmonyOS edition of WeChat first arrived on Huawei AppGallery in January 2025 and now supports core functions including messaging, social features, WeChat Pay, public accounts, mini programs, Channels (视频号) and live streaming. Install figures have surpassed 40.08 million, and WeChat Pay has been integrated into the HarmonyOS 5 cashier flow, allowing users to choose WeChat for digital purchases. This rollout sits inside a broader push by Huawei (华为) to build an independent mobile ecosystem after restrictions on U.S. supplier access, a shift that has accelerated domestic app and OS development in China.
