Xiaomi (小米) pushes Pengpai OS 3 to flagship phones and Pad 8, adds AirPods compatibility and new sharing tools

Upgrade rollout

Xiaomi (小米) has started rolling out Pengpai OS 3 (澎湃 OS 3) to its latest hardware, it has been reported that the Xiaomi 17 series, REDMI K90 (红米 K90) series and Xiaomi Pad 8 (小米平板 8) are receiving the update from today. The push is gradual—users should see the update arrive over the air in batches rather than all at once.

What’s new

The update brings a bundle of user-facing features. “Xiaomi Super Island” (小米超级岛) is now tied into the file manager and can display live document-processing progress; transport and door cards are shown more clearly on the lock screen. Phones and tablets running Pengpai OS 3 are now compatible with Apple AirPods, supporting fast‑connect pop‑ups, battery level display, spatial audio, noise‑cancellation switching and the Find feature. “Tiefen Share” (贴贴分享) gains voice and note sharing and can transfer content quickly by placing Xiaomi phones or an iPhone close to the NFC zone. Camera users can download a “Mi‑LOG to Rec.709” LUT from the pro‑video settings page. Accessibility adds an “elder care” hub that bundles font and icon scaling, ringtone volume adjustments and scam‑call blocking. It has been reported that the release also introduces a native “Passwords” app, though Xiaomi has not widely documented that addition.

Context and fixes

Why does AirPods support matter? In China, device loyalty is fluid—cross‑ecosystem compatibility is a user advantage and a potential market differentiator. It also underlines the practical tech reality that many Chinese manufacturers continue to interoperate with popular Western peripherals despite wider geopolitical tensions, trade restrictions and Beijing’s push for a stronger domestic OS and chip stack. The update also fixes bugs: it addresses scenarios where WeChat could not read screenshots and fixes stuttering of multilingual thumbnails in some capture situations.
