Honor (荣耀) unveils Magic V6 foldable with massive battery and Apple-friendly features — can it sway buyers from Samsung and Apple?
Premium hardware, aggressive positioning
Honor (荣耀) today launched the Magic V6, a high-end foldable that pairs a fifth‑generation Snapdragon 8 “Supreme” processor with an unusually large battery—Honor’s top configuration reportedly packs a 7,150mAh cell—and a starting price of ¥8,999. Short sentence: it aims to be a serious challenger in China’s foldable market. Long sentence: with flagship silicon, a weight of about 219g and a launch price that undercuts some international foldables, Honor is pitching the Magic V6 as a performance‑packed, cost‑competitive option for buyers who want big screens without the Galaxy premium.
Screens, durability and battery claims
The Magic V6 uses Honor’s “Black Diamond” display tech on both inner and outer panels to lower surface reflectance to 1.5%, supports stylus input and 4,320Hz PWM dimming, and promises a 44% reduction in crease visibility versus the previous generation; peak brightness is listed at 5,000 nits (inner) and 6,000 nits (outer). The frame uses what Honor calls “Honor Shield” steel with 2,800MPa strength and IP68/IP69 dust‑ and water‑resistance plus 4m water protection. It has been reported that the new blade‑cell battery uses 32% silicon and an energy density of 985 Wh/L; Honor also offers a 6,850mAh alternative and a 120W GaN fast charger.
Camera, ecosystem and geopolitics
Photography and AI are focal points: a 64MP 1/2‑inch telephoto sensor with CIPA 6.5‑level stabilization sits on the back, and Honor bundles features such as an AI meeting assistant, AI intelligence officer and full‑screen real‑time translation. Notably, Honor said the Magic V6 supports Apple ecosystem functions — Mac extended screen, iCloud viewing and native AirPods support — an explicit interoperability move in a market where Apple’s walled garden often limits integration. On connectivity the device covers 25 5G bands and, for the first time in the series, supports Beidou satellite SMS across China’s three major carriers — part of a broader push toward domestic satellite services as geopolitical tensions and trade policy reshape telecom strategies. The phone’s Qualcomm SoC also underscores continuing U.S. supplier involvement even as export controls and technology competition remain salient.
Price and availability
Honor priced the Magic V6 at ¥8,999 (12GB/256GB), ¥9,999 (12GB/512GB), ¥10,999 (16GB/512GB) and ¥11,999 (16GB/1TB). Pre‑orders opened on March 10 with general sales set to begin March 13 via Honor’s online store, authorized e‑commerce partners and brick‑and‑mortar retailers. Will buyers choose big battery life and Apple interoperability over Samsung’s foldable pedigree or Apple’s ecosystem lock? Honor is betting they will.
